When I was 8 years old, my mother took me to the cinema for the first time to see the Beatles' film "Yellow Submarine". After that amazing experience, I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker. When I was 10 years old, I already had my first 8mm Russian film camera and I made my first animated film with it "Journey to the Black Hole" A fantastic voyage full of surreal worlds and adventures. Animation became my escape to the world of fantasy during the difficult era of communism. I often watched music videos on Austrian TV station and I knew that I would create something similar someday. In 1984, I was accepted to a university in Prague, to study animation, but what they taught us there took me back 10 years. In 1986, my sister and I emigrated to America and the beginnings were very difficult. Then in 1991, the universe gave me a chance. I met producer of Mobi and got an offer to make a video for his new song “GO” After it was finished, my video started to air on MTV and VH1 worlwide and became a hit. Shortly after that, Warner Bros. contacted me to direct and animate a video for the song “Kiko and the lavender moon” for the band Los Lobos. Of course, I accepted the offer and a few months after it was finished, the video was nominated for Grammys and MTV awards. And that’s where my film & animation career began to crystallize.
